Miyarisan is actively engaged in overseas business based on the technological expertise it has cultivated over more than 75 years.

Starting with exports of own brand products, we are promoting further growth overseas by securing royalties through out-licensing products, importing products sold overseas, and introducing new technology.

The first live microorganism to receive novel food approval

Our Clostridium butyricum MIYAIRI (CBM) received approval from the European Commission as the first live microorganism to be approved as a Novel Food※, based on the evaluation of various data on its safety, manufacturing, and quality. With this approval, the product can now be marketed in EU & the UK, and has been launched in Italy as the first Novel Food using Clostridium butyricum. Going forward, we plan to actively expand our business in North America, Central and South America, the Middle East, and Asia.

※ In the EU, “Novel Food” is a concept that refers to foods or food ingredients that had rarely or never been consumed by humans in the EU before May 15, 1997.

Exports to East Asia

We are promoting business for our own brand products in China, Korea, and other countries, and we are actively developing our business in collaboration with local partners. As the pharmaceutical market in East Asian countries such as China has continued to expand in recent years, we will continue to further strengthen collaboration with our partners to further expand exports.

Business Development in Southeast Asia

Each country in Southeast Asia has different regulations based on pharmaceutical laws, so a strategy suitable for each country is necessary. As a first step to develop the Southeast Asian market, we will start exporting our products to Southeast Asian countries, starting with Thailand and Singapore. We are also working on the registration of our own products in Vietnam.

Business Development of Feed Additives in the U.S., EU and the UK

In EU and the UK, the use of antibacterial feed additives to promote livestock growth has been completely banned, and probiotic feed additives are attracting attention as an alternative. By obtaining marketing approval through research and development in Europe in addition to the research results on probiotics that we have cultivated so far, we are expanding our export business to 27 EU countries and the UK. In the future, we plan to expand our business to North, Central, and South America and Southeast Asia.

Cooperation with European Companies

We export CBM G Powder, the raw materials of probiotic feed additive “Miya-Gold® EU” to Huvepharma, headquartered in Bulgaria, and import the mixed feed “Lianol®” product line from Ardol in the Netherlands. We will continue to globalize our business by forming alliances with more overseas partners based on the idea of hedging risks such as foreign exchange.

Joint Development and Domestic Partnership with BASF

We are engaged in domestic joint development and domestic partnership with BASF, one of the world’s leading chemical producers headquartered in Germany. The domestic jointly developed products include “Miya-Phos®E”, a feed additive that combines BASF’s phytase Natuphos®E with our Clostridium butyricum MIYAIRI (CBM), which has been marketed by us since 2020. In addition, the mixed feed “BalanGut®LS P”, one of BASF’s global brand “BalanGut®” products, has been on the market through a domestic partnership in 2022. We will continue to strengthen our partnership and aim for further business development.

※BalanGut® is a registered trademark of BASF. (Registration No. 6553892)

Establishment of the CBM Plant dedicated to feed additives

We have been exporting the raw materials for feed additives to the EU, but our production has not been able to meet the demand and sales within the EU have been limited to a few countries. Therefore, in the spring of 2018, we established a new plant called the CBM Plant exclusively for feed additives to solve this gap. With the completion of this plant, exports to all EU countries & the UK are now possible.

Furthermore, with the certification of FAMI-QS (international quality and safety management system for the production of feed additives) and the start and completion of the second phase construction, we will begin exporting to North America, South America, Oceania, Southeast Asia, and other countries.
